Consumer Behavior as a Challenge and Opportunity for Circular Food Packaging—a Systematic Literature Review

Abstract The food sector has been targeted as a potential site for the implementation of circular economy strategies. Food packaging, in particular, caused concern due to its high production volume, short usage time, and problems related waste management littering. Circular strategies could potentially address these concerns if there is consumer acceptance participation systems. present review seeks inform future studies need further research this area by reviewing current knowledge behavior relation packaging. When doing so, study finds that have primarily focused on recycling, foremost European American setting. However, less known about consumers packaging developing countries. While reuse were more prevalent from 1970–1980s, such initiatives are yet again researched, which promising given their generally favorable environmental footprint.
